Emo/Scene Hair Extensions
When contemplating an emo or scene hairstyle it is a good idea to do some research into hair extensions. Emo/scene hair extensions are the answer to not damaging your hair from bleach and coloring and in most cases it’s as simple as using clip-in hair extensions that can be found in a number of emo and scene styles.
Scene Hairstyles
Before thinking about hair extensions to add length or color, you need a general scene haircut. A scene hairstyle could be described as a haircut that retains length but includes short choppy layers from the top down, as pictured on the right. The layers are then either combed back or teased (or a combination of both) and hairspray is used to make them spiky. Hair extensions can then be added to create length, volume or to add bright and funky colors/patterns.
Scene Hair Extension Types
There are a number of different types of hair extensions (clip-in, glue-in, micro loop and so on.) however we’re going to focus on the different types of scene hair extensions instead, for example – the colors and styles that generally represent emo or scene hair.
Colored Hair Extensions
Adding an assortment of colored hair extensions is an easy way to stylize your hair and make it more ’scene’. The color you choose ultimately depends on your preferences however it is a good idea to choose a color that works well in contrast to the rest of your hair. Also, don’t limit yourself to just one color. Try a combination of two colors if you’re feeling up to it! Tip: Black or platinum blonde hair works well with all colored hair extensions!
Racoon Stripe/Coontail Hair Extensions
Racoon stripe or ‘coontail’ hair extensions are very popular and can make a great addition to your hair. They are hair extensions that are striped horizontally or in a ‘V’ shape and come in a range of colors. Tip: For a striking look it is advised to make use of plain colors and then in addition partially blend in coontail hair extensions with a color that already exists in your hair.

Leopard Print, UV and Miscellaneous Hair Extensions
Scene hair extensions also come in a range of other styles including leopard print, stars, hearts, geometric shapes, various fringe pieces and even hair extensions that glow in UV light. Whilst not all of these scene hair extensions are readily available to buy, it is relatively easy to make them yourself by purchasing platinum blonde humain hair extensions and permanent dye. The rest is up to your creativity!
